clintonFred thompson announced his candidacy on the "Tonight Show with Jay Leno". It's about time. I was tired of the "will he or won't he" talk. He is the most electable conservative out there.
On the other side of the fence, John Edwards seems the most likely winner in the 08 Presidential election, if he can just get the nomination. Its looks like Hillary Clinton has that wrapped up already. I just don't understand what all the fuss is about with this movie about 9/11 that Disney won't release on DVD. They told the writer that if Clinton wasn't running it would be released. I haven't seen the movie, so if anyone out there could tell me what the problem is, I would appreciate it.
I personally would not vote for Hillary Clinton. The reason is simple. Right after 9/11, President Bush gave a speech to Congress, and at one point they showed Senator Clinton. And what did she do? Showed a total lack of respect to the President, the people who died, and to the American Public. How did she do it, you ask? She was shown, rolling her eyes almost in digust at what was being said. That did it for me. In my opinion it showed her true colors.
Lets talk about another subject. Hate Crimes. There were 6 or so African American People who beat a caucasian man up pretty badly. Now the prosecutors are reducing the charges.
Now before we go any farther, I have to say that I don't agree with te hate crime laws. In my opinion, any crime is a hate crime. Having said that, as long as the hate crime laws are on the books, this should be treated as one.
If this had been 6 caucasian guys beating up an african american, you can bet that the prosecutor would not be reducing the charges. They would be looking at life. I don't care if you are white, black, green, yellow, or red, if several of one color jump on another color, then under the current laws, It Is A Hate Crime.
Now lets talk immigration. I am learning Spanish in college right now. I believe that in the field I am going into it will be useful. Having said that, I believe that an unsecure border not only leads to National Security, but also Economic Security issues. We need to shut down our border. Then we need to make the fines more for employers that hire undocumented workers. Also renters that rent to undocumented workers should face hefty fines. And when I say hefty, I don't mean $500-$1000. I mean $100,000-$5,000,000 per offense. That way, if someone is undocumented, then they would have to get documented. That is when we offer them a one year work visa that is reviewed every year. If at the end of the year person is gainfully employed, we extend it for another year. If they are not, then they are sent home. Where ever that may be. Also if they don't renew, a warrant is issued for their arrest and they are sent home and never allowed to return.
Well, I guess that is about it for now. I will try to post a little more often. I didn't realize how much time school would take. Bye for now.

Made it through my second day

I made it through another day of college. I think that I will be OK. At age 37, I must admit I was a little concerned. I haven't been in school for almost 20 years, but I am doing OK. The hardest class so far has got to be spanish. But considering that I am going into web design and development, spanish may prove to be a useful tool.
With the growing spanish speaking population inside the US and the growing use of computers in Latin America, there will be a need for spanish language websites.
My easiest class looks to be algebra, followed closely by government. I still have not had my english class yet. It will be tomorrow night for 3 hours.

Back to School

I am sorry about not posting yesterday but I had to get myself and my kids ready for school. At the ripe old age of 37, I am starting college for the first time. I am excited, but a little nervous at the same time.

Drinking and Driving

My 60 something uncle had an accident a few months back. He was at home and got drunk. He doesn't even remember getting behind the wheel. Luckily, he just injured himself. This is not his first DUI, or even his second. He is my uncle, and I love him, but he should be in jail. Instead, he is getting to go home.
A few years back, Tanya's cousin was killed by a drunk driver. She was just one life that ended that year due to alcohol. Every year there are between 15,000 and 18,000 alcohol related deaths on our roadways. Something has to change.
There are states that are requiring that in car breathalyzers be installed on cars that prevent them from starting if you are convicted of a DUI. I believe that this is a good idea and should be required nationwide. Especially considering that there are offenders out there still driving after multiple DUIs. Remember my uncle?
There also should be stiffer penalties if you get caught for a DUI in a vehicle that is installed with one of these devices. That would mean that you intentional disabled the device somehow and you should be charged with attempted murder. By disabling the device, you show intent. Therefore, mandatory jail time.
By the same token, if you kill someone in a car that has the device disabled, you should be charged with capital murder. In some states, that would mean a maximum of life in prison. In other states, the death penalty.
If you have kids, this would be great thing to add to the cars that they drive. Lets face facts, kids drink underage and then drive. I will be exploring my options when my children start to drive and will probably have one installed on their car to keep them and others safer.
DUIs are a problem nationwide and something needs to be done to stop them. And I think that this is a good place to start. If you don't agree with this, think about this when you are out driving. Is my uncle back on the road and is he headed your way?
Also if you are out drinking and thinking about driving, remember Tanya's cousin. Also think about the daughter that was with her. The one that survived. The one that got left in this world without a mother. And remember that you might leave someone motherless, or fatherless, or take a child from a parent, or kill a whole family, or possibly even kill your family. Remember that.

What is wrong with California?

I cannot believe that someone in California would not prosecute a self-proffesed pedophile. I thought that I didn't read it right the first time I read it. The prosecutors dropped the ball after police arrested the man outside of a child care center on a California university campus.
The prosecutors said that the judge that issued the order did not obey certain protocol. In my opinion, the prosecutors are not doing their job. This guy admits that he is a pedophile and we expect our police and prosecutors to protect us. If I lived in a community where something like this happened, I would lead the charge to have these prosecutors removed from office.
If they are appointed, put political pressure on the one who appointed them. If they are elected, then put political pressure directly on them and if they don't respond, make sure that they don't get re-elected.
What these prosecutors are doing is helping this guy do what he does, which is illegal. This would be like letting a self-confessed murderer go because you didn't cross a "T" or dot an "i" on the arrest warrant. So the murderer, who confessed, gets a walk with a pat on the back and a sorry about that.
